The memorial consists of a colossal granite sculpture of the heads of Washington, Lincoln, Jefferson, and Theodore Roosevelt on the face of 5,725 foot Mount Rushmore.  The sculpture, planned and executed by Gutson Borglum, was dedicated by Calvin Coolidge in 1927, and was completed in October 1941, approximately six months after the sculptor's death.  The Roosevelt head was dedicated in 1939.  The visitor center includes a film, an information desk, restrooms, and a bookstore.
