The 70,448 acre park serves as a tribute to Roosevelt's conservation efforts. Within the park are his Elkhorn Ranch, herds of bison and other wildlife, colorful badland scenery, and some remnants of petrified forest. The visitor centers feature various films, slide shows, and museum displays. There are picnic facilities, a 36-mile scenic drive, and daily summer programs and walks on nature and history. Camping is by permit, and there is a fee for guided trail rides in the south unit of the park.
